Now over 60 years old, A Charlie Brown Christmas remains one of the most popular holiday specials ever made—but at the time, it wasn’t exactly a lock. Indeed, early reaction by CBS execs was almost entirely negative; and the show set so many precedents—including not only its unashamed use of the Bible but also no laugh-track, plus vocals done by actual kids—that Michael Keene’s 2023 book on the show is titled Charlie Brown’s Christmas Miracle. Join local speaker and author Joseph W. Smith III for a free talk and discussion on the 1965 TV classic—10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 19, at James V.
